For Samantha, running Britain’s Ocean City Half Marathon is deeply personal. Her mum was diagnosed with cancer a decade ago and sadly passed away in April 2024. In her final weeks, the St Luke’s Urgent Care Service provided exceptional care, supporting not only her mum but the entire family through an incredibly difficult time.

“Losing Mum has been heartbreaking, and we’re still learning how to live with it,” Samantha shares. “Training gives me something positive to focus on, and I hope it will help with my mental health too.”

Samantha admits she’s not a natural runner, though she’s tackled a ParkRun, a 10k, and even ran to fit into her wedding dress back in 2021. Juggling training with work, family life, and even a broken toe has been challenging, but she’s determined to see it through.

“This isn’t just about completing the race—it’s about saying thank you and honouring the amazing care my mum received. Every step I take is for her.”

Samantha will be taking part in Britain’s Ocean City Running Festival on Sunday 11th May 2025, you can join her by taking part at www.runplymouth.co.uk
